Coffee Corner: Ice Storm Madness
January updates
If you live on the east coast, it’s likely you just went through a pretty gnarly snow and ice storm. I’ve been holed up in my apartment for days, I left yesterday to check my mail, and promptly fell and rolled my ankle. So, now I’m really locked inside. Here’s what I’ve been up to.
What I’m Drinking
These bad boys with a splash of extra creamy oatmilk and sugar have been saving me on these cold winter mornings.
What I’m Reading
This book by Gretchen Sisson examines the adoption industry through the lense of the mothers, and its fascinating, damning, and crucial. I’m not too far in but I’m shocked by what I’ve learned so far.
This novel is stunning, hard, and fascinating. It follows Renita as she exits the prison system and fights to stay sober and become a mother to her children again. Lee used to bring writing workshops to prisons, which informed her perspective on Renita’s story. I find it compassionate but honest, and this read has really swept me off my feet.
I’ve only read the first story in this collection, but I’m a Danielle Evans fan after reading The Department of Historical Corrections earlier this year.
What I’m Listening To
I’m a big searows fan so this album is getting played a lot!
As an adoptee myself, this Mon Rovia album is wrecking me and putting me back together again.
